History

IFEN was born in 1998 as a tech spin-off from the “Universität der Bundeswehr” (Munich), taking its name from the university’s geodesy and navigation department, known as the “Institut für Erdmessung und Navigation.” Initially, IFEN kicked off with service contracts focused on EGNOS development, later extending to Galileo. These contracts involved a range of activities from GNSS system studies and analysis to algorithm and software development, culminating in turnkey systems like the Galileo test range GATE. Service contracts across GNSS domains have remained pivotal, providing us with work, revenue, and expertise.

Since 2003, IFEN has delved into navigation products, releasing the first commercial GNSS RF-signal simulator by the end of 2007. Our foray into the commercial arena significantly propelled our growth in staff and expertise. This was partly due to our reputation as a reliable yet flexible player in a market long dominated by a quasi-monopolistic competitor.

Today, IFEN stands as a leading provider of cutting-edge software and hardware for RF satellite navigation. Our flagship products include the NavX family of GNSS test solutions and the SX scientific software receiver.
